Carolinas Aviation Museum

December 7, 2010

A few months back, a dear friend’s son hosted a party at the Carolinas Aviation Museum. You might be like me and not realize that we had such a thing in Charlotte. (If you don’t live in Charlotte, you might be surprised you have something like it too!)

The museum has been around for a while, but recently moved into a former private hangar. It is filled with military and commercial aircraft from many eras.  The exhibits rotate as there is not room for all of their holdings in the hangar.

The kids enjoyed seeing jet fighters up close and even sitting in a cockpit. They could also look inside an old DC-3 that can be rented out for flights.

The site also features an awesome little gift shop with lots to please the aeronautic buff in your house. Great stocking stuffers if you are still looking for some last-minute items.

After the tour we visited the airport overlook park for airplane-shaped hotdogs (so clever!) and cupcakes. They kids like chasing after the planes landing and taking off.

The museum is located at 4672 First Flight Drive (near the airport) and is open 7 days a week.

Fun for all ages!

I never knew, thanks for posting this, my son is a huge aircraft buff. Think we’ll head down before Christmas.
